East End Girl, London, 2012

Strength. Defiance. I’ve always looked for that in the young people I’ve photographed. A messy bedroom 17 floors up in a tower block in Poplar, East London. Looking out over everything she couldn’t have. The odds stacked against her. Yet she’s not looking. I saw an armour. A willingness to fight. Against that expected course. To prove them wrong. I hope she did.
